Roleplay Specific Guidelines:These are guidelines that are in place to help ensure that all players are allowed their fair go in any roleplays. As these are guidelines they may not always apply, if unsure; ask. [.Points in orange are new/have been updated.] Characters:- Before posting as a character you must first post a character biography in the Character Sheets section of the appropriate board.
- IMPORTANT: Characters may only be controlled by their creator or a member(s) with the creator's permission.
- Your character is not you. And thus doesn't know what you know. For example; you know the H.E.C.U. are there to kill everyone, but your character may not.
Another example is speaking to another character using their name before your character has learned their name. Try not to do anything like this, if you do we will 'request' that you edit the post. - No 'god mode'. Your character is not invincible. (S)he cannot kill 1,000 soldiers with a crowbar... Even if Gordon can
 - Canon characters (Gordon Freeman, Eli/Alyx Vance, Barney Calhoun, Isaac Kleiner, etc.) are not acceptable as player characters. They may, however, interact with your character if (s)he is at a location that is in Half-Life (i.e. you character may be a CP chasing Gordon through the canals of C17).
Posting Format:- Posting is to be written in English (any required non-English text (dialogue, signs, etc) should come with a translation after it; i.e.:
"Vindico ex nos malum." John whispered [Translation: "Deliver us from evil"]. - Use third person, past-tense in your posts; i.e.: John walked quietly past the car.
- Correct grammar and spelling are a must. If you lack the grammar/spelling skills for this type your posts in MS Word (or equivalent) before posting them so that it can help you with your grammar/spelling.
- Speech, thoughts and the like should be written as per a book:
Speech: "Hey, John! Come here!" Thought: 'Where am I?' (italics are also helpful with thought but not necessary) - If your character isn't doing anything, don't post. Simple, right? Keep that to the OOC.
- Try to avoid one-line-posts at all times, if you are conversing with another member organise the entire conversation via PM, IM or in the OOC threads before posting it.
- If you absolutely must speak out of character within the RP thread (questions or comments to do with other member's posts, etc) put it in square brackets along with "OOC:". I.e.:
[OOC: where is John going next?] - Try not to leave your character MIA for too long and if you are going to be absent let everyone know.
- Lastly, this isn't a one person story; don't write 20,000 word posts. And try to interact with others rather than having your character on his or her own.
Other:- Keep your posts within MA15+ standards, this board is visible to anyone.
- Be sure to keep your knowledge and your character's separate. You know the resonance cascade is coming, doesn't mean they do. Same goes for the other way round, your character might know how to hack computers, doesn't mean you have to.
Alright, I know its a lot to read but they are there to make this place better for everyone. Please stick to the guidelines at all times and if you are unsure about anything don't hesitate to ask.
