Tables of Context: * About the RP * How To Play * The World * General Rules * Character Sheets
About the RP:
This is hounestly one of the shortest OP's I've ever made, I was thinking about having many features such as Inventories and such, however I'm new to the community and before I try to establish an advance gameplay I'd like to first try out a general low-key RP to see how everyone is.
Ride Out The Storm is set in the time between the start of the portal storms, a day or two in, up until the Seven Hour war. The RP starts in Leavenworth, Kansas. A small town a few miles outside of Kansas City. The RP will start off with a series of huge portals forming over the general area, not directly ontop of Leavenworth but rather close, at this you will do as you want, there is a strong sense of community in Leavenworth, everyone knows the Mayor, there is a main street and a City Hall.
How To Play:
Easy enough, use Italics for actions, such as; Wordsworth begins to dance. and use bold and quotes for speech such as; "Hey."
You must also wait for a GM reply to most posts, such as entering a new area, it must be described by the GM. NPC's are controled by the GM, Enemies and attacks are brought and used by only the GM. Successful attacks are decided by the GM through common sense or a roll of dice.
Here is an example of Gameplay:
Player 1: Player 1 opens the door and looks out at the sky, the shaking causing items in his home to fall to the floor, staring wide eyed at the blue portals forming out of the thick black clouds. I turn back and run into the living room GM: The Shaking stops and there is a loud rumble, humming from the sky, almost electric, suddenly it's inside of your house, in a much smaller scale however, suddenly there is a bright green flash, lighting bolts streaking past you and across the room from the flash, suddenly the flash is gone and infront of you sits on the floor an odd four legged creature, two of it's front legs extended out like arms, jointed half way, fangs just under the body of it's bulbous head, it's hind feet small and short, the entire create an odd brownish-gray. Player 1: "SONVABITCH" I shout as I grab the nearest item, my cellphone from the desk and chuck it at the creature. GM: You phone bounces off harmlessly, the creature shrieks in annoyance.
The World:
The World is as it has always been. Leavenworth Kansas, Small Town USA. Just a few miles outside of Kansas City and beyond the hills, Kansas being a very flat state. Television, Radio, Power and running water are all still present, the events at Black Mesa are not common knowledge and will not be for many more days to come. The events at Black Mesa however, have been played out, only a day after, Portal Storms are beginning, small storms, just an oddity at this time, uncommon and alien, the public having not been informed or if informed given very little information.
Leavenworth is a small town with a great sense of community, Mayor Green running it from City Hall at the end of Main Street, Gracie's Market, the tavern and everything else a small town would likely have. State Police being the only defense as of now, however most residences have the benifit of being armed, many of which farmers. When the Portal Storms finally reach a larger scale the Town must decide to seek shelter and safety somewhere else or to ride out the storm.
General Rules:
* You're not a Super Commando, you get a rifle, maybe a side arm and a melee weapon at most, no military gear, you're not allowed to be a Police Officer, however Nurses, EMT's, Doctors, etc. would be fine. * You're not Survivor Man, you cannot live in the wild, you do not have a sense of survival, you're an American Citizen in a modern small town. * No power playing, do not dodge constantly. * GM Describes Areas, Enemies, NPC's, Enviromental Information, TV and Radio Broadcasts, etc. * Let's be polite, please? * Use the OOC thread for OOC if it's more then a single sentence.
Character Sheets:
Name: Age: Sex: Occupation: Apperance: Clothing: Weapons: Items:
Any Comments, Suggestions or Complaints will be fine, I'll answer any questions. If not post character sheets, if I get atleast three I'll start this RP.

Sounds good, I can't say I have much experience in this sort of RP (more used to the collab/fic sorta ones you see in the Resistance/Black Mesa RPs here) but I'll give it my all. Name: Robert "Wilks" Wilkinson Age: 61 Sex: Male Occupation: Zoologist [retired -- spends much of his time hunting game now] Appearance: Heavily tanned, rough skin, short silver hair, blue-grey eyes Clothing: woodlands DPC pants/long-sleeved tee, fluorescent orange vest Weapons:- Marlin Model 308MXLR Lever-action rifle (.338 Marlin Express)
- S&W Model 629 Classic Revolver - 5" (.41 Magnum rounds)
Items:- .41 Magnum rounds [x66]
- .338 Marlin Express [x60]
- Nikon 550 Laser Rangefinder [x1]
- Leatherman Skeletool CX [x1]
- Basic First Aid Kit [x1]
Additional Detail: Wilks has such weapons and attire as he's an avid game hunter in his spare time - that he has a lot of, being retired - and as such uses these weapons on a regular basis. As a result of his frequent hunting Wilks is proficient with these guns and tracking. However his weapon skills are limited to mostly stationary firing whilst under little pressure/threat. His tracking is quite good however his stealth is not exceptional due to preferring to keep a safe distance from any game.

Sounds good! I've done this sort of RP before, but not via a forum, so this should be interesting! Name: Simon "S.J." Jensen Age: 28 Sex: Male Occupation: Career Criminal (Takes any job that pays, or if all else fails works freelance robbing banks, liquor stores etc. for personal gain.) Appearance: Fairly tanned, Muscular, cropped black hair, gray-blue eyes, light stubble Clothing: Combats, white t-shirt, sunglasses. Wears a balaclava whilst on-the-job. Weapons: - Remington 870 Pump-Action Shotgun - Black Finish with sling. (12 Gague Shell)
- Sig P226 (9x19mm Parabellum)
Items:- 48 x 12G. Shells
- 45 x 9x19mm rounds
- Bandolier (Holds Shells Only, mostly used when he's on a high-risk job.)
- Holster for P226
- Laser Sight for P226 (Mostly used for scare tactics during robberies rather than an accuracy aid.)
- Caddilac CTS-V (Metallic Navy Blue w/ Creme leather seats.)
Additional Detail: SJ is a criminal through and through. Has been known to work with other criminal organisations or alone on high-risk ventures such as bank heists, grand theft auto (stealing to order) and kidnapping to ransom. Undertakes most of his work in the big cities up north, but frequently travels to the southern states (Particularly to Kansas where he has a house in the small town of Leavenworth) to lie low and let the heat cool off. In this sense he has lived in Leavenworth for approximately 6 years and is well known as an upstanding American citizen. Frequently attends NRA meetings and shoots. Has participated in most local community events and has made many friends because of it. All a perfect cover for a black-hearted scumbag like Simon, and this life fits him like a glove. Not easily intimidated but not neccessarily quick to anger. Spending his life on the edge has made Simon an easy-going individiual even under extreme pressure and thus has a steely resolve. For SJ life couldn't be better. Making hundreds of thousands off the fat-cats up north so that he can kick back with people who are none-the-wiser down south.

Name: John Taylor Age: 47 Sex: Male Occupation: Retired Stockbroker Appearance: A great big bushy beard, tanned from holidays and white hair and facial hair Clothing: Smart casual, usually shirt and jeans with walking boots and when cooler he has a full length black coat and he will sometimes wear a hat also. Weapons: - Desert Eagle - Show-piece / Status Symbol, 10" Barrel, Chrome Finish
- H&K USP .45 - Flashlight attachment. Preferred self-defence weapon.
- M4 - Reflex Sight, vertical foregrip. 5.56x45mm NATO. Limited to single fire.
- Colt Single Action Army ("Peacemaker") - Heirloom, very little practical usage.
- Sabre – Heirloom, not much proficiency
Items: - 2 mags for USP (24 rounds)
- 2 mags for M4 (60 rounds)
- Swiss Army Knife, quite expensive one
- Keys to a Volvo S60 with all the extras
Additional Information: After graduating from High School he was immediately accepted into Harvard and gained a degree in business. He very quickly gained a job on Wall Street as a successful Stock Broker and was able to build up an impressive pension fund. So much so that he was able to retire at the age of 45. This was when he moved to his second home in Leavenworth and sold his apartment in New York. John has a rich Southern heritage which he is proud of despite spending most of his life in the North. He has a couple of heirlooms from his Great Great Great Grandfather who was a Confederate Cavalry Officer during the American Civil War. These include a sabre and a Colt “Peacemaker”. Throughout his life he has been interested in guns and as such has always been a member of the NRA. This has given him a good proficiency with weapons particularly handguns. However he isn’t great with the ladies so he has remained a very happy bachelor throughout his life with many opportunities to buy ‘boy’s toys’ and other items that wives tend to frown upon.

Source?
You do realise that you aren't going to get very good ballistic performance launching, what is essentially, a grenade-sized round as a bullet? I would be intrigued to know which of your selected weapons you proposed would fire such a cartridge...
Well, I checked ye olde wikipedia and there's no such thing. The closest I found was the 6.8x43mm Remington round which is chambered by AR-15 type rifles to name but one, but no pistols or SMGs...
Not trying to nit-pick here, not being nasty or anything, I'm just curious as to where 43mm came from and how an SMG or Pistol could even chamber such a huge round?
